Prayer against the evil eye, or against an evil spell due to jealousy

Updated: Dec 16, 2025

Prayer for Protection from Envy, Harmful Intentions, and Fear

Heavenly Father,

You are my refuge and my defender.

I place myself completely under Your loving care.

If there is any envy, ill will, or negative intention

Directed toward me—whether spoken, unspoken,

Known or unknown—

I ask You to dissolve its effect

By the power of Your truth, light, and love.

Lord Jesus,

Free my heart from fear and anxiety.

Protect my mind from worry and suspicion.

Let no jealousy, resentment, or negativity—

From others or within myself—

Have any power over my life.

Holy Spirit,

Surround me with Your peace.

Fill me with confidence in God’s protection.

Replace fear with trust,

And tension with calm.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,

Saint Michael the Archangel,

And all the saints,

Keep me safe in body, mind, and soul.

I trust in You alone, O Lord,

For You are my shield and my strength.

Amen.

To address the concept of prayer against the evil eye or evil spells, it's important to understand the spiritual beliefs surrounding these phenomena and the various religious approaches to protection and deliverance.

The evil eye, also known as vaskania in Orthodox tradition, is believed to be spiritual harm caused by jealousy or envy. Symptoms attributed to the evil eye can include unexplained headaches, fatigue, stomach aches, dizziness, feelings of suffocation, or emotional heaviness, often without a clear medical cause. Many cultures and religions have beliefs related to the evil eye and seek spiritual protection against it.

In Christianity, various prayers and practices are employed for protection and deliverance from perceived evil influences, including the evil eye or spells. These often focus on invoking divine power and protection.

1. Orthodox Christian Prayers: In Orthodox tradition, specific prayers are recited by priests for deliverance from harmful spiritual influences. One notable prayer against vaskania is attributed to St. Arsenios. These prayers typically ask God to banish diabolical actions, satanic attacks, evil curiosity, harm, and the evil eye caused by malicious individuals. They often invoke God's mighty hand and arm to protect the individual and send an angel of peace as a guardian. The prayer from Mount Athos, for instance, asks God to "banish, expel and cast away every diabolical action, every satanic attack and every plot, every evil curiosity and harm and spell of the evil eye caused by malicious and evil people from your servant [name]". Orthodox Christians also use blessed items like icons, crosses, and prayer ropes for spiritual support and protection. The Jesus Prayer ("Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me") is also used for calming the mind and strengthening faith.

2. Biblical Prayers and Psalms: While the Bible does not explicitly mention "evil eye" in the same way some traditions define vaskania, it contains numerous passages and psalms that are widely used for protection against evil, adversaries, and spiritual attacks. Psalm 91 is frequently cited as one of the most powerful prayers for protection in the entire Holy Bible. It speaks of dwelling in the "shelter of the Most High" and resting "in the shadow of the Almighty," promising deliverance from snares, pestilence, terror, and harm. Verses like "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart" (Psalm 91:4) are often meditated upon for divine safeguarding. Other biblical verses, such as Psalm 121:7-8, "The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore," are also used in prayers for protection.

3. Deliverance Prayers in Catholicism: Catholic tradition includes various deliverance prayers for the laity, which can be used for oneself or, with adjustments, for others. These prayers often invoke the Most Precious Blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to cleanse and protect against evil spirits and their influences. Examples include prayers to flood one's memory, imagination, emotions, and physical senses with the Precious Blood, and to destroy structures established by evil spirits. Prayers for breaking curses are also common, proclaiming that "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us" (Galatians 3:13). These prayers aim to break the power and hold of curses that may have come through rituals, transfer from others, spoken words, or occult practices. Specific prayers also exist to remove Satan's yoke, invoke the aid of Saint Michael the Archangel, and consecrate oneself to the Blessed Virgin Mary for protection.

4. Prayer Warfare Against Evil Eye: Some Christian practices involve "prayer warfare" specifically against the evil eye, viewing it as a negative energy or spiritual attack. These prayers are often offensive in nature, aiming to disrupt malicious intentions and reclaim blessings. They may include petitions to God to send fire to consume demonic eyes, scatter the plans of evil ones, and blindfold the eyes of the wicked. The "blood of Jesus" is frequently invoked for covering and protection

.

5. General Principles for Prayer: Regardless of the specific prayer or tradition, common themes in seeking protection against evil influences include:

  • Faith and Trust in God: Believing in God's power to protect and deliver is central.

  • Repentance and Forgiveness: Acknowledging and repenting from sin, and forgiving others, is often seen as crucial for spiritual freedom.

  • Invocation of Divine Authority: Prayers are made in the name of Jesus Christ, recognizing His authority over evil.

  • Use of Blessed Items: Many traditions incorporate blessed objects like crosses, holy water, blessed salt, and oil as aids in prayer and protection.

In summary, while the terminology and specific rituals may vary, the core of prayers against the evil eye or evil spells in Christian traditions revolves around seeking divine intervention, protection, and deliverance through faith, repentance, and the authority of God.

The ravages of jealousy are comparable to those caused by magic. When we know what a great power it gives the unclean spirits, we must do everything to defend ourselves resist any temptation to use it.

PRAYER : " O FATHER, OUR GOD, King of Time, Almighty who govern the universe, You make your sun rise on the bad and the good and cause rain to fall on the just and the unjust; You who in Babylon have changed into dew the furnace incandescent seven times more than usual ; You who protected and saved your three valiant saints*; You, the Healer who treat and heal our souls; You, who are the safety of those who believe in You; we ask You to move and to break and to keep away from your servant … any perfidious action, any aggression of Satan, any evil intrigue and any perverse attempt, and any damage or wrong due to the envious eyes of the wicked who cause harm. If it happened to our friend something of this kind, if his beauty, courage, happiness (or whatever) has been the object of jealousy or envy – this disease has been caused by a written letter or by bad effects of the evil eye – Your, Lord friend of men, stretch toward them your mighty hand, your vigorous arm that can all, come to help your servant … Send him an Angel of peace whose force will preserve his soul and his body, so that he pushes back from him and banish any perverse idea and any bad effect of envious eyes.

You, Almighty God who created the prayer of your prophet Elijah and the cries of those who you were calling for help, You who sent Saint Gabriel the Archangel to Nazareth to announce to the Virgin that she would carry your Son in her womb who turned water into wine at Cana, You who created man in your image and likeness, You who created his Guardian Angels, stand near your servant … Protect him from the spirits of malice, from visible and invisible enemies, give him rest of sleep, move away from him all fantasy and all satanic spirit. We ask this through the intercession of Our Lady, Mother of Light, and of all the saints and angels of light. "
