Prayer for the children

Praying for children is a deeply rooted practice across many faiths, often seen as a powerful way to seek divine guidance, protection, and blessings for their well-being and development. Parents and caregivers frequently turn to prayer to express their hopes and concerns for their children's physical, emotional, and spiritual health, as well as their future paths and choices.

The act of praying for children can encompass a wide range of requests, from basic needs like safety and health to more profound desires such as the development of strong character traits, faith, and a sense of purpose. Many parents find that incorporating prayer into their daily routines not only benefits their children but also strengthens their own faith and provides a sense of peace amidst the challenges of parenting.

Common themes in prayers for children include:

  • Protection and Safety: Parents often pray for their children's physical safety from accidents, illness, and harm, as well as protection from negative influences and difficult situations. This can extend to praying for children in conflict zones or those facing poverty and exploitation.

  • Spiritual Growth and Faith: A significant aspect of prayer for many is the desire for their children to develop a strong personal relationship with God, to grow in grace and knowledge, and to embrace core spiritual values. This includes prayers for salvation, a love for God's Word, and the ability to discern truth.

  • Character Development: Prayers frequently focus on instilling virtues and positive character traits such as honesty, integrity, self-control, kindness, compassion, humility, perseverance, and responsibility. These prayers aim for children to embody qualities that will guide them in their interactions and decisions throughout life.

  • Wisdom and Guidance: As children grow, parents pray for them to make wise choices in their education, careers, relationships, and life paths. They seek divine direction for their children's future and the ability to navigate challenges with good judgment.

  • Emotional Well-being: Prayers often include requests for joy, peace, contentment, and strong self-esteem rooted in their identity. Parents also pray for their children to overcome anxiety, loneliness, and the pain of bullying.

  • Relationships: This can involve praying for healthy friendships, respect for others and authority, and for future spouses.

  • A Servant Heart and Passion for God: Many parents pray for their children to develop a desire to serve others, to work hard, and to have a deep passion for God and His mission.

The method of prayer can vary, from spontaneous heartfelt requests to structured prayer lists or praying specific Bible verses over children. Some parents pray aloud with their children, modeling the practice and encouraging their children to develop their own prayer lives. Others write down their prayers, creating a tangible record of their hopes and petitions. The consistent act of prayer is seen as a powerful legacy that parents can leave for their children, influencing their lives both in the present and the future.

PRAYER :" Dear Lord, we thank you for our children. They are our sunlight, our joy, our fulfillment. It is because we love them so much that we implore your blessing and protection. They need it so, surrounded as they are sath elements and situations which we ourselves have not faced in our youth. We do as you, God, for an insulated world for our children in this kind of world, they will not grow, nor do we ask you to preserve them from all mistakes, for by some of these they are truly made wiser; but only from such that will destroy them, irreparably, perhaps with one sure blow. Look down upon our petitions as indicative of our willingness to do our share in preserving them from such a fall. Grant us the wisdom and the tact needed for vigilance over our children. Lord God, you share your creativity in the bringing forth of our children through conjugal love, keep them in good health, help parents to guide them as God's children from childhood through adolescence to maturity. Amen. "
