Prayer of Consecration to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart and soul. Transform me, guide me, and strengthen me in all truth and goodness. I consecrate myself entirely to You, offering You my mind, my heart, and my will.
Holy Spirit, teach me to love God above all things, to serve others with humility and charity, and to walk faithfully in Your ways. Enlighten my mind, inflame my heart, and empower me to bear witness to Christ in all that I do.
Come, Holy Spirit, dwell in me, renew me, and sanctify me. Let Your gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord guide me throughout my life.
I give myself entirely to You, O Holy Spirit, that I may live in holiness, truth, and love, and bring glory to God in all things.
Amen.
A Prayer of Consecration to the Holy Spirit is a devotional act where an individual dedicates themselves, their intellect, heart, and will to the Holy Spirit, seeking guidance, strength, and conformity to divine will. This prayer is a common practice in Catholicism, emphasizing submission to heavenly inspirations and the teachings of the Church.
One common version of the Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit reads:
"On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light, and listen to Your voice, and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, 'Speak Lord for Your servant heareth.' Amen."
Another version of the prayer highlights the consecration of one's understanding, heart, and will to the Holy Spirit, seeking submission to divine inspirations and the Catholic Church's teachings It also includes a plea for the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Holy Fear, which are believed to perfect the soul and guide individuals in their spiritual journey. These gifts are essential for living a life aligned with God's will and for overcoming spiritual challenges.
The act of consecration is seen as "repairing the wiring," a foundational step for God's protection and provision to flow into one's life. It involves deliberately and intentionally dedicating oneself, or specific aspects of one's life such as a home, relationship, or work, to Jesus, bringing them fully under His kingdom and rule. This practice is not limited to personal consecration but can also extend to consecrating one's body, home, or even sexuality, seeking healing and alignment with divine purpose.
