Prayer of Lectors

A Lector, also known as a Reader, is an individual who proclaims the Word of God during liturgical services, particularly in Christian traditions such as the Catholic Church. This role involves reading from Sacred Scriptures, excluding the Gospel, during Mass or other worship gatherings. The Lector's primary responsibility is to convey God's message to the congregation with clarity, reverence, and understanding.

The act of proclaiming the Word is considered a personal communication from God to His people, with Christ present in His word. Therefore, Lectors are called to prepare themselves diligently through prayer, study, and practice to faithfully deliver the intended message. This preparation ensures that their voice, mind, and emotions are used to effectively communicate the spiritual message contained within the scriptures.

A common prayer for Lectors before proclaiming God's Holy Word is: "Almighty God, please fill me with your Spirit. Cleanse my mind, my heart and my lips, that I may worthily proclaim your Holy Word. Amen." This prayer reflects the Lector's desire for divine guidance and purification to fulfill their sacred duty. The role is open to all who wish to participate and share their gift in communicating God's message to the parish family.

PRAYER : " Dear Jesus, thank you for calling me to be Let me take this role seriously and diligently prepare myself for it by studying the sacred text before Mass and by striving to be a better Christian. By my physical action of reading, I am the instrument through whom you become present to the assembly in your Word and through whom you impart your teaching. Let nothing in my manner disturb your people or close their hearts to the action of your Spirit. Cleanse my heart and my mind and open my lips that I may worthily proclaim your Word. Amen. "
