This prayer, and others like it, are often used by students to ask for guidance, intelligence, and success in their academic endeavors. Another variation includes a plea for the Holy Spirit to fill the student with light, strength, intelligence, and humility, and for the ability to grasp things correctly and explain them accurately. Many individuals also offer personal petitions to Saint Anthony for specific academic challenges, such as passing exams, completing assignments, and excelling in various educational pursuits, including college entrance exams and professional board exams. The devotion to Saint Anthony for academic assistance stems from his reputation for academic knowledge and Christian wisdom during his lifetime.
Students often seek Saint Anthony's intercession for:
Motivation and determination to study consistently.
Intelligence to comprehend taught material.
A good memory to retain and apply learned information.
Success in studies and examinations for the greater glory of God and the benefit of their souls.
The practice of praying to Saint Anthony for help in studies is part of a broader tradition of seeking his intercession for various needs, both spiritual and temporal, reflecting his historical role as a "wonder-worker" and a powerful advocate.
PRAYER : " O glorious, Saint Anthony, divinely Prayer of Those in Authority my studies under your protection. Guided by your example, I wish to draw all my knowledge from the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. With your assistance, I will study to do my duty in the spirit of penance, and with a pure intention May the Father of light grant me, through your intercession, a bright intellect, a sound judgment and a retentive memory. Help me to study patiently, orderly and constantly, to develop in me the gifts of God and always to make good use of them according to His Divine Will. O dear Saint Anthony, grant me to succeed in all my studies and examinations, if it is for the greater glory of God and the benefit of my soul. Amen. "
