Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, splendor of heaven, holy Mother of God, we, your children, humbly turn to you.

Through your maternal intercession, obtain for us the grace of your Son, Jesus Christ. Protect us from sin and all dangers, and guide us on the path of holiness.

O blessed Mother, help us to remain faithful to God, to persevere in prayer, and to love Him with all our hearts. May we one day share in your glory and praise God with you forever.

Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.

Amen.

This prayer is often referred to as the 'never known to fail prayer' and is traditionally recited for three consecutive days.

The devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel has a rich history, tracing its origins back over 750 years. It is rooted in the Carmelite Order, which began on Mount Carmel in Palestine in the 12th century. The Blessed Mother is believed to have appeared to St. Simon Stock in the 13th century, presenting him with the scapular of Carmel. During this apparition, she promised, "Receive, my beloved son, this scapular of thy Order; it is the special sign of my favor, which I have obtained for thee and for thy children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be preserved from eternal fire. It is the badge of salvation, a shield in time of danger, and a pledge of special peace and protection."

The scapular became a widely adopted devotion, and the faithful continue to look to the Blessed Mother under her title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for protection and guidance. The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrated annually on July 16. The significance of the scapular was further emphasized in 1917 during the apparitions at Fatima, where Our Lady appeared to Sister Lucia holding the brown scapular and expressed her wish for everyone to wear it as "a sign of consecration to her Immaculate Heart."

The prayer itself acknowledges Mary's powerful intercession and her role as Mother of God and Queen of Heaven and Earth. It highlights the belief in her Immaculate Conception ("O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee") and places specific intentions into her care ("Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands").

OTHER PRAYER : "Virgin Mary, Mother and Queen of Mount Carmel, united in a wonderful way to the mystery of Redemption, you accepted and kept in your heart the Word of God and persevered

in prayer with the Apostles while awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit. In you, as in a perfect image, we see the fulfillment of all that we desire and all that we hope shall be realized in the Church. O Virgin Mary, mystical star of Mount Carmel, enlighten us and guide us in the way of perfect love; encourage us to contemplate the face of the Lord. Lovingly watch over us your children who wear your Holy Scapular, sign of your protection, and light up our way, so that we may reach the peak of the mountain that is Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord. Amen."
