Prayer to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
O Mary, conceived without sin, Mother of God and Mother of all, to you we come with trust and love.
Through the graces given by your Miraculous Medal, intercede for us in our needs, comfort us in our trials, and guide us to your Son, Jesus Christ.
O Immaculate Virgin, help us to live faithfully in your love, to grow in holiness, and to share your mercy and compassion with others.
Mary, Mother of the Miraculous Medal, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
The prayer to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is a Catholic devotion that consecrates individuals to the Blessed Virgin Mary under this specific title, seeking her protection and intercession. This prayer is often recited as part of a novena, a nine-day period of prayer, particularly the Perpetual Novena of the Miraculous Medal, which has been prayed every Monday since 1930 at The Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The prayer itself is a plea to Mary Immaculate, acknowledging her role as the Mother of God and seeking her guidance and grace. It asks that the Miraculous Medal serve as a constant reminder of duties towards Mary and a sign of her affection. The prayer also requests Mary's loving protection, preservation in the grace of her Son, and the grace of a happy death, leading to eternal bliss in Heaven.
The Miraculous Medal originated from apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830 in Paris, France.. During these apparitions, Mary revealed the design of the medal and promised great graces to those who wear it with faith. The front of the medal depicts Mary standing on a globe, crushing a serpent, with rays of light emanating from her hands, symbolizing the graces she bestows. It is encircled by the invocation, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee" The reverse side features the letter "M" surmounted by a cross, with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary beneath, surrounded by twelve stars. The medal quickly gained its "Miraculous" name due to numerous reported blessings, cures, and conversions associated with its wearing.
The prayer to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is a significant part of this devotion, reinforcing the wearer's commitment to Mary and their trust in her intercession. It is often recited in conjunction with other prayers, such as the "Memorare" and an Act of Consecration to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. The spiritual benefits of wearing the Miraculous Medal with faith include receiving promised graces, spiritual benefits from Masses, and indulgences under specific conditions.
OTHER PRAYER : "O most powerful Queen of heaven and earth and Immaculate Mother of God and our Mother, most Holy Mary, through the merits of the manifestation of your Miraculous Medal, we beseech you to hear our petitions. To you, O Mother, we turn with confidence: send forth into the whole world the rays of God's grace of which you are treasurer and save us from sin. Through your intercession, may the Father of Mercy take pity on us and save us, so that we may be sure to enter into Paradise, where we shall be able to contemplate and honor you Amen."
