Prayer to the Most Precious Blood

Prayer to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus

O Jesus, in Your Most Precious Blood, You have redeemed the world and opened for us the gates of heaven. We adore You and thank You for this infinite gift of love.

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, wash us from our sins, protect us from all evil, and obtain for us the grace to live in holiness.

Strengthen our faith, purify our hearts, and unite us ever more closely to You, that we may glorify Your mercy and love in all we do.

O Most Precious Blood of Jesus, save us, protect us, and keep us faithful to Your divine will, now and forever.

Amen.

The Prayer to the Most Precious Blood is a collection of Christian prayers and devotions that honor the blood shed by Jesus Christ during his Passion and death, believing it to be the source of salvation and grace. These prayers often seek intercession, healing, and protection through the merits of Christ's blood.

Various forms of this devotion exist within Catholicism and other Christian traditions. One common form is the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, which involves meditations on the five principal wounds of Jesus: the nailing of His right hand, left hand, right foot, left foot, and the piercing of His Sacred Side. Each mystery is accompanied by specific prayers, including the "Our Father," "Hail Mary," and invocations like "Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, save us and the whole world."

Another significant prayer is the Offering in Reparation to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, approved by Pope Pius VII in 1817. This prayer offers the merits of Christ's blood for various intentions, such as the propagation of the Church, the welfare of the Roman Pontiff, the conversion of unbelievers, and the needs of individuals and souls in purgatory. It emphasizes reparation for insults and ingratitude towards the Precious Blood.

A Litany of the Most Precious Blood is also a widely recited prayer, invoking the Blood of Christ under various titles and attributes, such as "Blood of Christ, only-begotten Son of the eternal Father," "Blood of Christ, price of our salvation," and "Blood of Christ, freeing souls from purgatory." This litany seeks mercy, salvation, and protection through the power of Christ's blood.

Healing prayers often incorporate the invocation of the Precious Blood, asking for physical, mental, and spiritual restoration. These prayers typically express gratitude for Christ's sacrifice and trust in His healing power, requesting that His blood cleanse, rebuild, and renew diseased areas and cast out anything that should not be in the body or spirit.

The devotion to the Precious Blood is rooted in biblical teachings that highlight the redemptive power of Christ's sacrifice. For instance, Hebrews 9:12 states, "He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption." Similarly, 1 Peter 1:18-19 mentions, "you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot." These scriptural foundations underscore the theological significance of the Precious Blood as the ultimate price of salvation and a source of divine grace and healing.
