The Serenity Prayer

Updated: Sep 27, 2025

The Serenity Prayer – (full version)

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

As it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with Him

Forever and ever in the next

Amen.

Bible Verses For Peace And Serenity:

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

A Source Of Strength

The Serenity Prayer is a source of strength and encouragement in difficult times. The interpretation of the prayer can be varied, but the basic idea of the prayer remains unchanged.It says that God gives me the serenity to accept what I can not change, and the courage to change what I can. It says that you should get wisdom to find out the difference between things that are under your control and things that you can not do.

Meaning Of The Serenity Prayer

This means that you are asking grace to take things in your life that you do not control. Then it also means that if you do not control things, you should worry about it. Do not worry about those you do not control. Do not strain and do not worry about them. The second line of the prayer says that you must have the courage to move forward in life. This means that you must be willing to accept changes in your life or, rather, make changes in your life that will be for your good. This means that you must have the courage and faith to face difficult times in these periods of change. It also means that you can not rest on your laurels, and you must be able to prepare for any accident. The last thing you need to know is when to take things as they are and when to move forward to accept this change.
