First Visit to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy, Marilao

Today felt special even before I left home. Everything was packed, all my documents ready for my first visit to the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Marilao, Bulacan — to register for my Holy Confirmation. I woke up with that busy, ready feeling, yet deep inside my heart stayed quiet and calm.

I arrived much earlier than I expected, and there was Mass being celebrated — so I joined right away. As I prayed, I thought: At last, I’m here. I felt so grateful to receive a blessing from a priest who is devoted to the Divine Mercy. It brings me peace knowing that through such faithful servants, God pours out His graces in abundance.

After Mass, I went to the parish office to complete my registration. The staff were so kind and welcoming — but I learned I still need one more important document: the permission letter from my home parish. I didn't have it with me today. To be honest, I felt a little disappointed. But I reminded myself gently: I can come back. I can bring it tomorrow. All in God's perfect time.

So instead of rushing home, I took my time to walk around and explore this beautiful place. And what a treasure it is! I learned this holy ground was born from a simple inspiration — when Fr. Vicente "Vic" Robles felt called to spread the Divine Mercy devotion after watching the 3:00 PM prayer on television back in 1991. It’s amazing to think that from that small beginning, this whole sanctuary grew — especially with that unexpected generous donation that helped build it. The first Mass here was celebrated on February 2, 1992, and in 2002 it was officially elevated to become a National Shrine.

My eyes were drawn everywhere — the church itself is spacious and beautiful, built so that so many may gather here in prayer. But what truly took my breath away was the towering 150-foot statue of the Divine Mercy standing tall and radiant over the grounds — unveiled in January 2017, it truly feels like Jesus stretching out His arms in mercy over all who come here.

I walked through the peaceful gardens, saw the life-size Calvary and Stations of the Cross, the gentle Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, the beautiful Grotto of the Resurrection with its flowing water, and visited the Guadalupe Chapel in the basement where the spring water flows — a place of healing and grace for so many pilgrims. I even learned about the Little Poland Museum, honoring St. Faustina and Pope John Paul II.

I left today without finishing my registration — but I carried home something even more precious: a heart full of peace, and a beautiful holy place I now know I can always return to. Tomorrow I’ll bring what’s needed. For today, simply being here was grace enough.

🕊️ "Jesus, I trust in You. Your timing is always perfect. Lead me, guide me, and bring me back here soon. Amen."

Until Next Time
