The Jade Emperor, a prominent figure in Chinese mythology and religion, is known by several names and titles that reflect his supreme status. His full name is Heavenly Imperial Quarters Supreme Natural Truest Jade Emperor .
He is also commonly referred to as Yudi (玉帝). Yu Huang Shangdi (玉皇上帝) or Yu Huang Dadi (玉皇大帝). Other names include Heavenly Grandfather (天公, Tiāngōng), which originally meant "Heavenly Duke" , the Jade Lord, and the Highest Emperor. In Caodaism, he is called Cao Đài and Ngọc Hoàng Thượng Đế . He is also identified with Śakra in Chinese Buddhist cosmology and Haneullim in Korean mythology.
The Jade Emperor is considered the supreme ruler of Heaven and the first emperor of China, holding a significant role in Taoist theology where he is the assistant of Yuanshi Tianzun, one of the Three Pure Ones. His court in heaven mirrors the structure of ancient Chinese monarchies, emphasizing fairness, benevolence, and mercy. His birthday is celebrated on the ninth day of the first lunar month, a significant event where Taoist temples hold rituals and offerings are made to honor him.
